Travel Tips
Choose Your Transport Wisely**:
Bus**: The most common and cost-effective option, with frequent departures from Skopje's central bus station. The journey takes about 3-4 hours.
Train**: A scenic option, but check the schedule as it may not run as frequently as buses. The trip takes approximately 4-5 hours.
Car**: Renting a car provides flexibility to explore along the way. The drive takes around 2.5-3 hours, depending on traffic.
Book in Advance**:
For buses, tickets can often be purchased online or at the station. Booking ahead can secure your seat during peak travel seasons (summer and holidays).
If opting for the train, check the timetable online and arrive at the station a bit earlier to purchase your ticket.
Pack Light**:
Both buses and trains have limited luggage space. A small suitcase or backpack is advisable, especially for the bus, where space in the overhead compartments can be tight.
Prepare for Border Crossings**:
If you're coming from outside North Macedonia, ensure you have all necessary travel documents and check visa requirements. However, there are no border crossings between Skopje and Ohrid as they are both within the country.
Timing is Key**:
Be mindful of travel times, especially during weekends or holidays when services may be busier. Plan your departure early in the day to avoid delays and enjoy more time in Ohrid.
